Aalto University

Created in 2010 after a merger of 3 Finnish Universities, Aalto University is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Finland. The school offers world known Computer Science programs and has about 18,000 students. This school offers Bachelor's and Master's programs in English for international students. The university's main campus is located in Otaniemi, near the capitol Helsinki. Aalto University is ranked as #1 in the country for engineering, physics, business, and many other fields.

University of Helsinki

The oldest and largest university in Finland, with its roots going back to 1640. The university has over 31,000 students, and the university is generally known as "the" university of Finland. The University of Helsinki has an english Bachelor's program in science. The university has campuses all around Finland and depending on which program you end up in, the location of your study may vary. The university focuses mainly on humanities.

Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (LUT University)

As one of the few specialty universities in Finland, LUT University is known for their environmental and sustainability research. The university is ranked highly in business, engineering, and physics. It has two campuses, with the larger original campus being located in Lappeenranta, a city near the Russian border. The school has about 7,000 students and has a variety of international and English based Bachelor's and Master's programs. 1,000 students reside in the Lahti campus of the university. It is a prime university for international applicants, as over 20% of the school is international.

University of Turku (UTU)

Established in 1920, the University of Turku is one of the largest universities in Finland with over 20,000 students. The school is known for its research and has impressive alumni such as the 12th President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö. The School partly shares a campus with Åbo Akademi University. The university has several campuses as well but the main campus is in the Finnish city of Turku. The university is known for their business and humanities studies.

Åbo Akademi University

Åbo Akademi University is an exclusively Swedish speaking university located in Turku. It was founded in 1918, and currently has 5,500 students. The university was originally a private school, but was made a public University in 1981. Most of the students who attend this school are billingual students who speak both Finnish and Swedish.

University of Jyväskylä

University of Jyväskylä is a University of about 14,000 students that was founded in 1863. The university has excellent English programs for Master's studies, and has three campuses. They are a very popular option and get a large amount of applications per year, which makes them selective, only accepting about 14% of applicants every year.

Tampere University (Tuni)

Tampere University was created in 2019 after a merger of two universities located in Tampere, Finland. The school has over 20,000 students, and is a very highly regarded institution. They offer English based Bachelor's and Master's programs, and operate on two campuses. One of the Universities in the merger, Tampere University of Tehchnology, was one of the most prestigious engineering universities in Finland, and this trend continues with Tampere University.

University of Oulu

University of Oulu is a University of 13,000 students located in Oulu, Finland. The school was established in 1958, and is the second most northern university in the country. The school offers a few English based Bachelor's programs, with a plethera of English based Master's programs. The University of Oulu has become a known and popular university choice for many.

University of Vaasa

The University of Vaasa is a University of about 5,000 students that was founded originally in 1968 as a school of Economics. The university has grown over the years to offer a variety of different subjects. It shares a campus with Vaasa University of Applied Sciences.

University of Lapland

The University of Lapland was established in 1979 and is the northernmost university in Finland. They have about 5,500 students and perform a large amount of arctic research, and offer English based Master's level programs.

University of Eastern Finland (UEF)

The University of Eastern Finland was created in 2010 through the merger of two universities located in Eastern Finland. UEF has two campuses in Kuopio and Joensuu, which host a total of 15,000 students. It is the second university located in Eastern Finland with LUT University.

Hanken School of Economics

Hanken School of Economics is one of the smallest schools in Finland, of only 2,500 students. The school was established in 1909, with its main campus in Helsinki, and a second one established later in Vaasa. The school has English based Bachelor's and Master's programs.

University of the Arts Helsinki

University of Arts Helsinki is a very new University established in 2013, and focuses on teaching art. They have about 2,000 students, making it one of the smallest Universities in the country.

National Defence University

National Defense University is the smallest University in Finland with only about 850 students. The University has several locations, like the Army Academy in Lappeenranta near LUT, Naval Academy in Helsinki, etc. The school trains officers for the Finnish Army.
